Week 1: Week of October 1st
This week, Make it known/Get Educated!
Make it known that you and St. Brigid-St. Augustine are part of the initiative to stop bullying! Bullying Facts (as reported on the daily announcements)
Monday's Bullying Fact of the day: For our older students:
“Bullying is when a person in a position of power (real or perceived) intentionally hurts someone, repeatedly”. (Ms. Seidl) For our younger students: “Bullying is when someone is being hurt either by words or actions on purpose, usually more than once, feels bad because of it, and has a hard time stopping what is happening to them”. (Pacerkidsagainstbullying) Tuesday's Bullying Fact of the day: Did you know that All 50 states have bullying laws? On April 21, 2015 Montana’s governor signed the last of the 50 state’s bullying legislation into law. Bullying is against the law in all 50 states! There are currently no federal laws about bullying. (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/deborah-temkin/all-50-states-now-have-a_b_7153114.html) Thursday's Bullying Fact of the day: Did you know that any mean comments posted online can be considered cyberbullying. Yes, that’s right, anything even remotely mean that you post online can be considered bullying and is therefore illegal in the state of CT. When the bully posts something online it gives him power over the other person because he can’t see them and doesn’t have to look them in the eye. It is always on purpose because the bully has the opportunity to think, plan and consider what is being typed and is always repeated because multiple people can see it and the target can see it anytime they open their social media or texts. Friday's Bullying Fact of the day:There are many different types of bullying. The most common types are physical, verbal, cyber and social/emotional bullying. Social/emotional bullying includes:spreading rumors, leaving someone out of games or activities, purposely embarrassing someone and damaging someone’s reputation. All types of bullying hurt the target in different ways, but can be equally as painful. |

Unity Day: This is the day everyone can come together—in schools, communities, and online—and send one large ORANGE message of support, hope, and unity. Create a visual UNITY statement! In Project Connect, students can write a message on an ORANGE strip of paper. The paper links are then connected to create one long chain, which visually represents uniting for a common cause. Make ORANGE go viral. Let your friends know why you’re “going orange” by posting about Unity Day on Facebook, Twitter,Instagram, Snapchat with hashtag #UnityDay2017 and #SBSAPUnited |
